Message Vinegar eats corrosion off of copper and aluminum and is easy on insulation plastic. Use a Q-Tip to smear the vinegar on and rub off the corrosion with a rough cloth.

Don't use WD-40 as a lubricant as it will gum up over time and create a dielectric coating. Try some military spec. CLP (Cleaner, lubricant, preservative-Break Free) available at any gun shop. Air Force and Army have been using it for years on their helos. Designed for high temp, low gum, and low dirt attraction. A little goes a long way and it is super cheap and available.
